PostSubject: Frustration & some light   Mon 5 Feb ŕ 10:32

Presently I’m rather frustrated: It took many, many hours to build up an article in German Wikipedia about Steve Coleman. I liked to do that and I guess: It was quite well. But recently some “rigorous” men criticized: My article would not be objective. I’m no art critic, no university professor, no authority. They cancelled all what was of value to me … and I could not stop them.

Since several years I wrote many posts in a German Jazz Forum. But since some time I can not find anybody to discuss the questions which are interesting to me. It is the best German Jazz Forum – but only a few people are writing there.

In Dim’s Forum here even less people are participating … and I hate that I can not really say in English what I want to say (due to my bad English) … … …

But I want to talk about some light too:

I’m trying to find a way to “understand” West-African music a little bit better than I do. I read 2 books and some articles … and on the radio I heard somebody talk about a special book:
John Miller Chernoff: “African Rhythm and African Sensibility”, 1979.

Recently I noticed: This book is mentioned on the following site of Steve Coleman’s homepage:
http://www.m-base.com/cnmat_ucb/Music_Improvisation_164.html

Now I’m reading this book and I‘m fascinated … and I think: I can see some aspects of Steve Coleman’s music clearer: the simultaneity of different things … and especially the aesthetics of his music!!
