Due to my bad English I write too rarely how glad I am about your FTP Dim. Coleman�s music and your great work are in my mind every day.

I have always enjoyed the solos of Pedro Martinez on �Alternate Dimensions Series Volume 1�. I even bought a CD with Cuban music to hear him drumming and singing. It�s great to see him on your video. I would like to thank you as you do to Martinez and Sorey at the end of the video.

first of all thx for the great work you are doin here since years. Your website is a treasure for us Steve Coleman fans.

At this point, I am interested in material of Council of Balance. In the archives, there is said, a gig of this band in Saalfelden (98?) can be found in the ftp, but there is no data in the folder. Perhaps there is a small mistake and you can solve the problem.

And in the end of 2007 you announced some material from a Council-gig in Vienne, I think it was ...

As a present for this new year to come, Iv'e added a special stuff in the Archives :

A live session featuring Steve Coleman, Sub Z and Kokayi, held at Radio Nova FM station in Paris.

The recording date should be around the HotBrass Gigs so probably late March, 1995.

Only 2 songs but the quality is very very good ...

First time i saw those three guys: well, very impressing !!

I've already heard some Steve's and Kokayi's albums so i knew before they're awesome, especially in live, but i've never heard the drummer Tyshawn Sorey, that was very good surprise even though i knew steve never play with average musicians. Very strong and explosive percussion at the drums, kokayi always at his best (i hope some rappers will take example on his vocals techniques) and very good solos of Steve Coleman.

This is my first message here so if i may make a few mistakes, sorry.

After a few years, i'm still completely stunned by this insane tune that is Country Bama. After a quick check of the Archives, i cant' find any other trace of this song (live or in studio). Was it a one-night only improvisation at the Hot Brass in 1995 or can i find this masterpiece somewhere else?

There is actually one rythm section I had never seen before: the one on Fabrik88 video (it's actually funny to see them in these 80s outfit), I could only recognize David Gilmore (and realize that he has been with SC for quite a long time)

could you share with us the meaning of some of your albums' titles . 9I have seen you post clues about your general philosophy but never about the choice of titles . The only exception to that would be the recent utube video where you give some clue as to where the idea of "Illusion of Body" comes from.)

Hi everybody!

Just a few words... I'm back on the forum after a long time away.

Still rediscovering Coleman's after many years of intense listening... I guess this is one of the many reasons why I love so much his music: it provides so many different emotions as I'm growing old. This is like good wine, it takes time to appreciate it in its full "power".

About "weaving symbolics", I still try to "digest" it... and it's good to not "understand" ...

How do you like Pad Thai? Here, Lake is the total groove drummer, but he's incredibly tight. He's as tight as Smith could have ever been, and also plays with Smith's power and control. You can hear the confidence of Lake dripping off his kit. This is a fantastic example of Lake at his best. It should be noted, however, that the recording process itself can make a drummer sound weak and unconfident. Not sure why that is, but I've heard it in my own recordings.

Having problems with conection

Hi!

Recently i was registered on the forum and read instructions for download.

As recomended,i'm using the Filezilla file menager but have a few problems:

In the begining i had problems with conection but after a few trys i succesfuly conect to the server.Than unexpectly being disconected.I tryed again but recieve "421 I can't accept more than 2 connections as the same user" message.After few days i tryed again,get conection and succesfuly being conected almost all day ...

wow a steve coleman forum

i am listening to steve coleman for years, i listen lots of kinds of different music but still i go all around and come back to sc recordings. and whenever i listen to sc i find different things, like i hear them different, it is some kind of an experience i gain everytime. to me,unlike other forms of sounds steve has infinity in his songs, like it is a 3 minute song, u listen to it, when u re-listen it somehow continues which makes the song 6 mins for me, and ...

For Information I found out this morning that Coleman have four dates in Paris end of august, beginning of september (31/08, 02/09, 03/09 and 08/09).

Black Genghis was a special moment in music on several different levels.

Lake was amazing, but which rapper was it that began rapping at the 4:37 mark of the song? He's the guy that emulates the bass, sax and drums.

His rhythm and syncopation is as fine as anything that we've ever heard from anyone in Coleman's music.

Hey Luigi,

How are things coming along with learning this tune? Do you have any plans of recording what you're doing, or even programming it out?

Just so that all of you know, Luigi and I have decided that the drums are in 5/4 while the bass in at least initially played in 7/4. The sax plays along with the bassist at the beginning of the track and then moves on to his own improvisation.

Pretty cool stuff. I've always wanted to try writing something with multiple time signatures ...

I know the band is playing at Moers festival with opus akoben, okay, that will be fine, but are there any other gigs in Germany? Where is a good source for tour information?

Newbie to forum having problems downloading

I just joined the forum today. I am using Mozilla firefox and Fire FTP client that comes as an add on to the browser.

Every time I try to connect , I Get the following error

421 I can't accept more than 2 connections as the same user

Unable to make a connection. Please try again.

Im having write/read errors with the hard drive I have all the music on.

So im trying to backup files and will try to recover the HD and then reinstall all the files.

So FTP will be temporarily unavailable until I post some new infos in a couple of hours probably.
